Despite all the unprecedented
progress that our country has experienced in the past century, there are still
many families living on
the margins of society. And there is more we could do collectively.
Personally, I would start by providing
them with enough opportunities to escape the poverty trap. First, I would improve our
educational system to level
the playing field. They say that knowledge is power. However, poor students
don’t finish secondary education or, in the worst cases, primary education.
Therefore, I would invest in building more schools in the poorest areas of the
country.
In addition, I would raise awareness about the impact of
poverty on the people living
on the fringes of society. Some people might want to help, but they
just don’t know how. Hence, I would provide them with as much information as
possible in order to promote fundraisings, donations, and volunteerism, among
many other initiatives. This way, we would increase civic participation and
encourage social inclusion.
As the saying goes, where there’s a will, there is a
way and I
believe this is the ideal time to start caring more about others in order to
build a better society.
